Chennai Super Kings have had some great players consistently play for them over decades. CSK is one of many teams who has been consistent in IPL history. In this article we will enlist the entire CSK squad playing for them in IPL 2020, their strength and their probable weakness.
After all the chaos and dilemma about IPL 2020, where it would take place and how would it be played and what not.. IPL 2020 extravaganza is going to start in a few days in UAE. CSK being one of the most consistent sides in the IPL history over the years. Also with MS Dhoni making a comeback in competitive cricket after a long gap of almost 12 month, all eyes would be on the team and specially MSD.
Batsman | All Rounder | Wicket Keeper | Bowler |
Suresh Raina | Dwayne Bravo | MS Dhoni | Imran Tahir |
Ruturaj Gaikwad | Shane Watson | N Jagadeesan | Harbhajan Singh |
Murali Vijay | Kedar Jadhav | Karn Sharma
Ambati Rayudu | Ravindra Jadeja | Lungi Ngidi
Faf du Plesis | Mitchell Santner | Deepak Chahar
Monu Kumar | KM Asif | ||
Sam Curran | Shardul Thakur
Piyush Chawla | Josh Hazlewood
R Sai Kishore |
With Suresh Raina's participation in upcoming IPL being dicey and Harbhajan Singh bowing out of the tournament citing personal reasons, it is a huge loss for CSK as the two veteran players play key roles in not only deciding matches but tournament as a whole.
Strengths
One thing that everyone should remember is never doubt CSK, when they returned to IPL 2018, after 2 years ban everyone doubted their ability and with their ageing squad were also sarcastically called Retired Squad and many other things as well. Ultimately all of us know what happened after that they went on to clinch the 2018 title proving that age is just a number. The squad consists of players with vast experience and that has proved to be their strength as well in a way.
CSK do have a good blend of youth and experienced players. With MSD being the captain he has the ability to get the best out of everyone which is the key factor behind their trophy winning IPL history. CSK this year seemed to be strong in the bowling department with the likes of Jaddu, Imran Tahir, Mitchel Santner and Piyush Chawla. It would be interesting to see who would play in their starting eleven.
With conditions in UAE being favorable for spinner's, it seems that MSD led Chennai Super Kings have had a good fortune of having such players.
Weakness:
With lack of playing time being a major problems for all the team because of COVID-19 pandemic as all International Matches were cancelled post March. Also with Mr. IPL “ Suresh Raina being out of tournament at least at the start of the tournament and also Harbhajan Singh missing out on IPL this season could be a great setback. Although spin bowling department seems to be covered, problem arises in batting with Raina being one of the most consistent performer over the years.
Concern are there over MS Dhoni's form as well, He is set to play for first time since retirement and this also marks his return post an 12months of sabbatical from cricketing world.
South African players would also be missing the first half of the tournament because of the current COVID 19 Pandemic.
Threats:
Chennai Super Kings have relied more on their top order players to score big runs for them. With this year Raina out and Faf joining in late, their top order looks a bit fragile. Shane Watson and Mahendra Singh Dhoni will have to deliver something special this year.
Although they still have quite a balanced side and with experience of Mr. Cool they still remain the team to beat in this tournament. CSK will just have to get their combination right and get going.
